Sgt. Stubby – an Unlikely Hero – our partnership!

We feel very honoured to be one of the charity partners of this wonderful family-friendly movie. Sgt. Stubby is an animated movie based on the amazing true story of one rather special hound, called Stubby, who like our PTSD Assistance Dogs, started life being homeless and In need of rescue.

Sgt Stubby in November 1924

Sgt. Stubby found his way into the heart of a US soldier, Robert Conroy and in WW1 proved to be a true hero – the story is about friendship, loyalty and incredible bravery.

For us it is a perfect match for many reasons. Rescue dogs, like Stubby, who need a second chance to show how loyal and smart they are, is what we are passionate about at Service Dogs UK where we train PTSD Assistance Dogs from rescue.

Sgt. Stubby was a lifeline to his soldier Robert Conroy and to those on the frontlines in WW1. In a different but no less important way our dogs now are helping those who have served, be it in the Armed Forces or Emergency Services. Our dogs do not save our veterans on the battlefield but we hope to help those veterans who have paid the high price of service with their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

We have seen a screening of the movie and we felt it was extremely inspiring to learn about this amazing dog in such a child-friendly way… it’s making an important bit of history accessible to a younger generation while highlighting the role that dogs played in war. We can truly recommend it.
