Why We Use Rescue Dogs

At Service Dogs UK, we believe in changing lives two at a time—and that starts with our commitment to using rescue dogs in our programme.

Every dog we work with is carefully selected, assessed, and trained to become a life-changing partner for a Veteran with PTSD. Most of our dogs are sourced through our trusted rescue partner, the Dogs Trust, one of the UK’s leading dog welfare charities.

By using rescue dogs, we not only help transform the life of a Veteran—we also give a second chance to a dog in need. Many of the dogs we work with have experienced uncertain starts in life. With the right training, structure, and bond with their Veteran, they go on to thrive in their new role with purpose, stability, and unconditional love.

This partnership is powerful: both Veteran and dog walk a shared path of resilience, growth, and hope.
