Mandatory Requirements & Experience
Mandatory requirement of all volunteers for SDUK is that you possess a skill, experience, or motivation and must have:
- A commitment to our work, along with an understanding of our values and ethics.
- A passion/love of dogs.
- A desire to help and be kind to others.
- Sufficient time/flexibility to be able to carry out your role.
- Where a role specifically requires professional qualifications, experience or accreditation, or other requirement, such as a licence to practice, you hold the necessary qualifications and they are current.
Desirable Skills for Volunteers
Desirable skills and experience that would be particularly helpful but are not essential to undertake volunteering:
- Knowledge of, or experience of working in a charity, or role relating to your volunteering role.
- Relevant professional qualifications or experience.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
- Good verbal communicator, able to get on well with people and to ask questions positively.

Events Volunteer
Be one of our events volunteers – we are seeking volunteers who are enthusiastic but diplomatic and sensitive to peoples’ needs. We are looking for people who can offer time at ‘one-off’ events throughout the year. This is a varied role, which can change depending on the type of event you are asked to attend.
- We are looking for someone with possible experience in coordinating and managing events.
- You should have good organisational and multitasking abilities.
- Are happy to roll your sleeves up and carry out varying activities, such as helping unload equipment and setting up the event; erecting tables and gazebos, arranging decorations and marketing materials.
- Have an ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with the flexibility to adapt to changing event needs and schedules.
- You should be able to talk passionately and enthusiastically about what the SDUK Charity does and share or signpost to further information. Creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. (We will provide any relevant training/induction as required).
- An understanding of health and safety regulations for events.
We rely on volunteer support to make sure these events go brilliantly – raising awareness to new audiences and/or funds for the Charity.
Volunteer Fundraiser
Our work is ONLY possible through your generosity kindness and passion to help us make the change for Veterans and rescue dogs. We do not receive any external funding and rely solely on donations and grants. Foster a Rescue Dog
We are looking for Dog Foster Carers – As a foster carer, you become an essential part of the journey to empower Veterans with PTSD. By providing a safe and loving environment for these remarkable dogs during their training period, you enable them to develop the skills and abilities necessary to support their future Veterans.

Volunteer Dog Trainer
We are looking for volunteers for experienced, talented and positive reinforcement dog trainers with real people skills to help our Veterans train our rescue dogs to become assistance dogs. If you can commit to 2 or 4 hours per week over 9 months, we would love to hear from you!
Social Media Amplifier
Here’s a way you can help out without having to send us an application form!
We are seeking volunteers to simply ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ our content on all our platforms. We would also like you to encourage your friends, family and followers to do the same. It is really that simple! Essentially, by being a SDUK social amplifier you are ensuring that our content and website are distributed to as wide an audience as possible. This will help boost the awareness of our charity as well as increase the possibility of donations/fundraising.
